Welcome to the home page of the Cardiff branch of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO). We are a member organisation representing retired police officers of all ranks and police widows, widowers and partners of former police officers mainly from the South Wales Police, but we do have members from other forces who are now living in this area. On behalf of the national headquarters in Wakefield we can offer a range of services to members including advice on pensions and other issues affecting the welfare of our members, as well as assisting members on a local level.

The information detailed below has been taken from our friends at NARPO SWANSEA and is reproduced here for the information of our members. Please be aware that as of 1st May 2025 a cleansing operation will commence of the website in relation to all images that are currently located there. We will be looking to establish that the image copyright is owned by the person providing it for publication. or in the case of event images such as those taken at lunches the copyright holder (Photographer) has either transferred the image rights to the branch or given the branch permission to use them. Material that appears to have been extracted from other media sources or where the copyright cannot be established will be removed.
If when viewing the website, you as a member find some images where you believe copyright may be an issue please advise the Web Administrator in order that all appropriate investigations and actions can be undertaken.
Remember, the monies these people seek to obtain is the members money which is used for the benefit of the membership, both on a National and Local Basis
In the recent past a number of NARPO branches have received claims in respect of copyright breaches for the use of images on their websites. One such claim was for in excess of £1270 for a single image. It was initially believed to be a scam but has been confirmed as legitimate. There was a threat of Court action if not paid within 2 weeks.
Legal advice was sought and contact made with the company, a response to which has yet to be received.
It would appear to be the case that even on private groups such as ours that permission has to be obtained to use copyrighted images.
These companies use AI to trawl/search Facebook, Websites, even Watsapp, and nothing can be hidden not even on password protected sites.
Many photo albums on our website have now been taken down as a consequence.
So moving forward, can we:
1. Continue to share images you own or have the copyright to.
2. Use images with a Creative Commons Licence.
3. Give proper credit if a licence requires attribution. And
4. Contact the original creator if you’re unsure about image rights.
QUITE HOW YOU DO SOME OF THESE THINGS IS UNCLEAR BUT BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.
In addition don’t:
1. Assume images found on Google or social media are free to use.
2. Share copyrighted material without permission or a valid licence.
3. Remove watermarks or copyright notices.

The creation of this website and its associated facilities is not intended as a replacement or a challenge to the long standing system IN THE LOOP operated by the famous Paul'Oddball' Phillips. This website should be seen as being an additional link in the chain of keeping those retired officers and families IN THE LOOP with everything that is going on. There are lots of 'LOOPERS' who are not members of NARPO and conversely lots of NARPO members who are not 'LOOPERS'. Therefore hopefully by utilising the membership of both, we can keep everybody:
